last day of '08

Thirty-first of December has come too soon in my opinion. My mind is running a month behind and is still on London time! I am increasingly becoming more and more sleep deprived!
For those of you who might not know, DC is 5 hours behind the UK and I start work at 5am DC time. This means I have to be up by 3.45am every morning. Now this wouldn't have been too bad as it's technically 8.45am in my head but trying to fall asleep at 10pm DC time is proving to be a difficult task to achieve. Moral of the story; go to bed when the 8 year olds go to bed, 8pm!
There is a genuine buzz of excitement in the air. Most people seem to be looking forward to tonight and toasting into the new year. Folks at work are gearing up to go to a Somali concert. I, on the other hand, am somewhat torn between my fatigued body, desperate for an early night and some well-deserved tlc and excited mind which seems to be in a permanent state of euphoria. I'll see which one gives up first.
My first recorded piece of audio received some airtime yesterday. The piece is a 2min editorial reflecting on the views of the American government, particularly shedding light into Nepal's media and the lack of freedom of speech.
I'm still enjoying DC, although i'm growing less fond of their bone-digging cold! I'll try to have a good start to the new year by kicking it off to a good start tonight. Wish you all a blissful '09.

breaking news

The world of politics never sleeps! Today the President of the transitional government of Somalia Abdulahi Yusuf resigned and Obama has officially been labelled as the most powerful man in the world who still fits a workout into his daily schedule!
On a more personal note I've had a very productive beginning to the week. I've translated and recorded my first audio editorial which will be aired tomorrow.
It looks like I'm stuck here for new years eve (oh how I wish I was in sunny Barbados!) so if anyone knows somewhere decent to go, do drop me a note.

The White House

Today has been a productive day. In the morning I went to see my future apartment (which I hope to move into in the first week of Jan '09). In the afternoon I went sightseeing around Washington. I drove past the George Washington Monument, Pentagon, Capitol Hill but was most amazed when I got to the White House. I thought to myself 'that's where the first black president of America will be living'!
I can't wait til Jan 20!

christmas day

Hey folks,
Welcome to my blog. in here I'll try to keep you posted on all things DC side as I experience it.
Well it's official, Americans work harder than the English. I am actually at work as I write this. It is Christmas day and although there aren't many people in the building, most of my colleagues are in the office hard at work. I on the other hand am counting sheep!
It's still early days, day 3 to be exact, so I'm not worried yet. If I'm in my second week and i'm still not doin much that would give me a reason to be concerned.
